Reddit is expanding its artificial intelligence strategy with a clear target in mind: not just its loyal community of content scrollers, but also the massive audience that turns to Google for authentic answers. At the heart of this push is Reddit Answers, an AI-powered chatbot designed to deliver real responses from real Reddit discussions — directly to users seeking advice, solutions, or opinions.

CEO Steve Huffman outlined the company’s two user types on Reddit’s Q1 earnings call: the “Scrollers, who dive deep into subreddits like r/AskReddit and r/technology for immersive conversations, and the “Seekers, who often find Reddit via Google search by adding “Reddit” to their queries for credible, community-driven answers.

“Historically, we built Reddit for scrollers. But Answers is our first product built for Seekers,” said Huffman. “These users aren’t looking to join a community — they want fast, accurate information. That’s what we’re giving them.”

Launched in beta in December, Reddit Answers already boasts over 1 million weekly active users. The AI tool scans and summarizes discussions from millions of Reddit posts to offer reliable, paraphrased — and sometimes verbatim — responses. It’s now live in major English-speaking markets, including the U.S., U.K., Canada, Australia, and India.

Currently located in the app’s navigation bar as a standalone feature, Reddit has bigger plans for Answers in 2025. The company is testing deeper integration, starting with its main search bar, enabling users to enter full queries instead of simple keywords — mimicking how people use Google.

Reddit also sees Answers as a way to onboard new users, offering a curated glimpse into its vast content. “When someone opens Reddit for the first time, Answers can help them quickly find what they’re looking for,” Huffman noted.

Another key development: Reddit plans to make Answers more discoverable through external search engines, streamlining how Reddit content appears in Google search results. This is especially relevant given Reddit’s recent brush with Google’s shifting algorithm. In late 2024, an update to Google Search impacted Reddit’s traffic growth, causing short-term concern among investors.

Still, Reddit is bullish. “We remain open so our content can be found on search — it drives traffic and visibility,” said Huffman. “But as the search ecosystem evolves, we expect occasional bumps.”

Despite those challenges, Reddit’s financials remain strong. The platform reported Q1 2025 revenue of $392.4 million, a 61% YoY increase, and 108.1 million daily active users, up 31% from last year. Reddit projects Q2 revenue between $430 million, continuing its upward trajectory.
