Amazon has officially launched Nova Premier, its most powerful artificial intelligence model to date, after initially teasing it in December 2024. Introduced during the AWS re:Invent conference, Nova Premier joins the Nova AI family alongside Lite, Pro, and Micro versions. This latest release significantly expands Amazon’s generative AI capabilities, with recent additions also including models for image and video generation, audio processing, and autonomous task agents.
Nova Premier is being described as Amazon’s “most capable model”—built” for advanced reasoning, deep contextual understanding, and complex decision-making. The model is now live on Amazon Bedrock, Amazon’s AI development platform.
Here are five things to know about the Nova Premier AI model:
- Purpose-built for complex, multi-step tasks
Amazon says Nova Premier is optimized for handling challenging workflows that involve intricate reasoning, planning, and the use of multiple tools and data sources. It’s also designed to serve as a teacher model for distillation — enabling smaller, specialized AI models to learn and inherit its capabilities for targeted use cases.
- Multimodal input and advanced reasoning capabilities
Like other models in the Nova line, Nova Premier can interpret text, images, and videos. However, what sets it apart is its exceptional ability to manage high-complexity tasks. With advanced contextual analysis and multi-step logic, it’s suited for analyzing lengthy documents, large code repositories, and technical data streams.
- Massive context window and top-tier benchmarks
Nova Premier features a 1 million-token context window — allowing it to process around 750,000 words at once. Internal Amazon tests show strong performance in areas like knowledge retrieval and visual understanding. On benchmarks like SimpleQA and MMMU, Nova Premier is either on par with or exceeds the performance of leading non-reasoning models in its class.
- Pricing details on Amazon Bedrock
Nova Premier is available on Amazon Bedrock under a pay-as-you-go model. Pricing is set at $2.50 (approximately ₹211) per million input tokens and $12.50 (roughly ₹1,057) per million output tokens, offering businesses cost flexibility based on usage volume.
- Regional availability and scalability
As of May 1, Nova Premier can be accessed across AWS Regions, including US East (N. Virginia), US East (Ohio), and US West (Oregon). Through cross-region inference, users can deploy the model at scale while only paying for actual compute usage, aligning with Amazon Bedrock’s flexible billing approach.
